Health Update: Excess baggage
PEOPLE who have never been abroad, especially those who live or work near airports, can contract 'baggage malaria' from tropical mosquitoes transported by aircraft, warns a report in Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Malaria-infected mosquitoes can survive for many hours in suitcases, it says.
