Harvey

Following the BBC One documentary, Katie Price: Harvey and Me, viewers have praised the former glamour model for the way she takes care of her son, who has partial blindness, autism and Prader-Willi syndrome.

The syndrome is a rare genetic condition that can cause physical issues and behavioural difficulties.

In the documentary, the 42-year-old discusses her ongoing search for a residential college for Harvey to attend when he turns 18.

This would mean that Harvey would have access to full-time care and could learn to live more independently and build on his social skills, while still having the option to return home at weekends if he wants to.

Other scenes in the film show Harvey and Price visiting train stations together so that he can watch the trains go by, which he says is one of his favourite activities.

The documentary has prompted widespread support for Price and respective criticism for Harvey’s father, footballer Dwight Yorke, who has reportedly had little contact with Harvey throughout his life.

“You can throw a lot of shit at Katie Price but the way she looks after Harvey is admirable,” tweeted one person.“As for Dwight Yorke, he’s not worth the characters of the tweet.”

“Harvey Price is so cute and pure whatever you think of Katie Price, you've got to hand it to her that she's an excellent mum to Harvey,” another added. "She knows how to communicate with him exactly to his needs and level."

Many viewers focused their attentions on Mr Yorke, with one person tweeting: "Wouldn’t normally watch this kind of thing but watching Katie Price: Harvey & Me and anyone who has ANYTHING to say about Katie needs to save that energy for Dwight Yorke.

"One stayed and did 18 years of loving & caring, one did not. Mind which one you criticise."

Another user asked when Yorke would “be a father to this lad”, prompting many people to respond with their opinion that Price and Harvey were probably better off without him.

“Katie and Harvey are better without him. What a beautiful relationship Katie and Harvey have,” one person tweeted.

Yorke has previously spoken about the reasons why he is not in Harvey’s life, telling the Guardian in 2009: “I'd love to have an input in his upbringing, I'd love him to know the other side of his family, but it wasn't allowed.

"I can take some blame for not being able to contribute a little bit more, but not all of the blame.”

The Independent has contacted a representative for Yorke for comment.
