In Thing: Mini-backpacks

Nobody looks good in a bumbag. Which is why they've not been missed since they died a death somewhere alongside Acid House in the early Nineties.

But latest in clubland bag wear is the mini-rucksack, selling out of Soho designer thrift shop American Retro. 'They're popular with women because they're small. Gay men like them too,' says manager Steve Byrd. They're also perfect for clubbing, being lightweight and unobtrusive. Retailing at a pounds 35 from American Retro (pounds 30 for plain black), these will be back on shelves waiting to be snapped up this week.

Mini-rucksacks at American Retro from this week at 35 Old Compton St, Soho W1 (071-735 3477). Mon-Sat 10.15am-7pm.
