Investigations have been launched into the death of a two-year-old boy found floating unconscious in a council swimming pool.

Tshicombo Majimbu was pulled from the baths at Tottenham Green leisure centre in Philip Lane, north London. He was wearing outdoor clothes.

Attempts were made to rescuscitate the boy as police took him to North Middlesex hospital, Edmonton. Tshicombo, whose family are from Zaire and live in Finsbury Park, was later transferred to St Mary's hospital, Paddington, where he died last Friday.

Haringey council, which runs the baths, and the Health and Safety Executive, have launched separate inquiries, with evidence from the pool attendants and the boy's family.

An inquest takes place on 27 July.
