Jeff Bezos reveals why he's spending million of dollars to go to space

Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos announced he and his wife MacKenzie Bezos are getting divorced after 25 years of marriage.

On Wednesday, Bezos shared a joint statement on Twitter announcing the decision.

“We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,” the couple wrote.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other.

“If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.”

Bezos, 54, and MacKenzie, 48, met while working at the New York-based hedge fund DE Shaw in 1992 and later married, before moving to Seattle, where Bezos launched Amazon.

According to Bloomberg, Bezos is the richest person in the world, with a net-worth of over $137bn (£107bn).

MacKenzie, one of Amazon’s first employees, is a novelist and author of The Testing of Luther Albright and Traps.

Last year, the couple, who have four children, announced they would be committing $2bn to a new fund called Day 1 Fund that would create preschools and support existing non-profits that help homeless families.

According to their statement, they both see “wonderful futures ahead as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures.”
