IT WAS gratifying to read your tribute to Catherine Cookson and Hammond Innes (editorial, 14 June). However, as the former's editor for the past 11 years, I was puzzled by your reference to her as "Ms", when a glance at your sister paper's obituary would confirm that she was Dame Catherine Cookson.

It should be recorded in your files that she had been married for 58 years to Tom Cookson, so "Ms" was inappropriate anyway.
