A convoy of 50 Jaguar E-Types crossed London June 6 to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic sports car - and the opening of the closest thing to a full motor show London now boasts.

The convoy featured fine examples of the Jaguar E-Type, which premiered in Geneva in 1961 and went on to become one of the world's most acclaimed sports cars, before being discontinued in 1975.

It has been named the most beautiful car of all time by the Daily Telegraph and has received several other awards, including earning a place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York thanks to its unique design.

At MotorExpo, the E-type will be lined up against some of its contemporaries, including the 550 PS Jaguar XKR-S, the most powerful model the brand has ever made.

There are also vehicles on show from Bentley, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Saab, Skoda, Tesla, Vauxhall and Volvo, with over 250 cars on show at the event, which runs through June 12.

Characters from Disney's Cars 2, including "Lightning McQueen," are also in attendance.

For the E-Type, Motorexpo is just one of several high-profile British events it will be headlining this year - the Goodwood Festival of Speed confirmed June 7 that it is to create a 150-tonne installation paying homage to the model in time from this year's festival, which begins June 30.
