The Tokyo motor show, opening its doors at the end of October, will see Suzuki displaying several new vehicles at its home show. But one of them is a production version of what until now has only been a concept.

The iM-4 is going to be called Ignis in Japan although the naming for other markets has yet to be confirmed. The Ignis is a compact crossover and, says Suzuki, “can straddle the boundary between daily life and leisure”.

The concept vehicle had a 1.2-litre petrol engine and four-wheel drive and was based on a new platform which it is claimed is more rigid, lighter and able to offer superior handling. It is not yet known how much of this has carried over to the production vehicle.

On show in Tokyo will also be the Trail Concept, which is a more off-road version of the Ignis, with body cladding, larger wheels and roof rails.
