Troubled car giant Toyota today announced yet another recall involving thousands of UK-owned vehicles.

The Japanese company said it was recalling around 12,000 UK-registered iQ models because of a steering problem.

Cars affected are those produced between September 11 2008 and October 22 2010.

Toyota said the steering problem can occur when iQ models are driven over safety strips known as "rumble strips".

The company said the problem had been seen in "very specific circumstances in Japan" but that no cases had been reported in Europe and there had been no accidents.

The iQ recall, which also affects continental Europe and Japan, is the latest in a series of recalls, totalling around 10 million vehicles worldwide, involving Toyota over recent months.
