In the 1960s a young Twiggy joined Mary Quant, Peter Sellers and The Beatles in picking the modest Mini as her car of choice to cut across swinging London. Today's young stars don't quite seem to have grasped the concept of stealth wealth. So as the typical 18-year-old gets to work in a battered-old Corsa, teen idol Justin Bieber, One Direction's Harry Styles and snooker player Judd Trump and are all bombing around in £100k-plus supercars.

First off the grid is Bieber. Pop fans who are also petrolheads will have spotted him pulling up in rather rare Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 convertible in the video for his latest single. And last month he received a $100,000 Fisker Karma electric supercar for his 18th birthday. He promptly ruined it with a nasty chrome coating likely to have given the cast of Top Gear a mild seizure. Britain's Styles, also 18, isn't far behind with a shiny new £80,000 Audi R8 Coupe, which is pretty pokey for a new driver – it goes from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and according to insurance broker Adrian Flux is likely to cost him an eye-watering £50k a year to insure. The far-more trustworthy Judd Trump (he's reached the ripe old age of 21) has more refined taste, though, and has just spent £100,000 on a Ferrari 430 Spider.

After all, nothing says: "I've just passed my test and I'm not driving my mum's Fiesta any more," than a bright red prancing horse.
