On Friday, we asked how to turn the digits of the date, 10.5.96, into a correct sum. The easiest way to do it is:

1 + 0.5 = 96

But which, if any, of the rest of the dates this month cannot be turned into sums? You may use +, -, =, x, , superscripts (as powers), or decimal points. No square roots or factorials, please. A Chambers Dictionary will be awarded to the best set of sums. Entries (to arrive by 21 May) to: Pastimes, the Independent, 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5DL.
