An outspoken idol to millions, American singer-songwriter Pink has opened up about the harsh realities of marriage.

Human relationships are complicated and it’s no secret that staying committed to one partner for a lifetime isn’t easy but, for those of us who choose to be monogamous, stepping into a long-term liaison isn’t always as bright-eyed as it’s cracked up to be.

One person that understands this all too well is Alecia Moore, who you may know as Pink.

Having been married to her husband, Carey Hart, for 11 years, their relationship hasn’t been without its hardships.

Despite having two children together – daughter Willow, six, and son Jameson, 10 months – the couple have split twice. Once in 2003 while dating, and then again in 2008, even going as far as to draw up divorce papers.

A subject Pink has never shied away from, her work frequently touches on issues within her marriage, none more so than her latest album, Beautiful Trauma.

Happy to discuss the trials and tribulations of married life, the singer recently opened up about the emotional conflict that comes with long-term relationships.

“There are moments where I look at [Hart] and he is the most thoughtful, logical, constant… he’s like a rock. He’s just the kind of dad I thought he’d be and then some,” she told The Guardian.

“And then I’ll look at him and go: I’ve never liked you. There’s nothing I like about you. We have nothing in common. I don’t like any of the s*** you like. I don’t ever wanna see you again.”

As someone that’s been committed to an on-off relationship for more than 11 years, Pink goes on to say that her marriage is something she will always stick out, even when it sucks.

“You’ll go through times when you haven’t had sex in a year. Is this bed death? Is this the end of it? Do I want him? Does he want me?,” she continues.

“Monogamy is work! But you do the work and it’s good again.”
