Prince Harry: Royal fans celebrates his first Father’s Day with charity fundraiser

Royal fans are celebrating Prince Harry’s first Father’s Day with a charity fundraiser in the Duke of Sussex’s name.

Ahead of Father’s Day in the US on 16 June, fans have taken to social media to launch the hashtag #HappyFathersDayPrinceHarry, in honour of the royal and his first and Meghan Markle’s first child Archie.

As part of the campaign, fans are asking that people donate to two charities supported by the duke, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that supports kids whose parents have died serving in the British Armed Forces, and the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which supports young leaders in the Commonwealth countries.

In addition to serving in the British Army, the Duke of Sussex leads the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which recently named the Duchess of Sussex as the vice president.

According to the leaders behind the new campaign, Tina and Michelle, who host “The Sussex Set” podcast, they wanted to honour Prince Harry on Father’s Day because he of his dedication to charity.

Speaking to Good Morning America, the pair said: “We are honouring Prince Harry’s first Father’s Day because, like the Duchess of Sussex, he uses his platform to bring remarkable attention to global issues such as the welfare of service men and women, mental wellness, environmental conservation, gender equality in education, and HIV/AIDS.

“Hopefully this campaign lets him know that we see him and that we appreciate his and Meghan’s dedication to service."

This is not the first time fans of the royal couple have led grassroots campaigns to support charities important to the duke and duchess.

In April, fans organised an online baby shower for the couple with the hashtag #GlobalSussexBabyShower ahead of the arrival of Archie, which asked that people donate to four charities.

At the time, Prince Harry and Meghan expressed their gratitude for the “outpouring of love and support in anticipation of the birth of their first child”.
