Royal wedding: Andrea Bocelli brings viewers to tears with powerful performance

'If ever there was a goosebump moment, then that was it'

The royal wedding between Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank this morning was an elegant affair, from the bride’s Peter Pilotto gown to the carriage that was pulled by four Windsor Grey horses.

But, one of the most show-stopping moments of the day came courtesy of a breathtaking performance by Andrea Bocelli.

During the ceremony, the world-famous opera singer treated the couple’s 850 guests, as well as viewers at home, to performances of “Ave Maria” and “Panis Angelicus” alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The official account for The Royal Family shared the four-minute offering on Twitter with the caption: “Conducted by Carlo Bernini, @AndreaBocelli and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra perform. #RoyalWedding.”

The powerful video has since been liked more than 1,000 times with many viewers commenting just how moved they were by the singer’s performance.

While some said it gave them “goosebumps”, others admitted the rendition had brought them to tears.

“Panis Angelicus brought tears to my eyes, best choice,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Andrea Bocelli singing Ave Maria broke me.”

A third person commented: “If ever there was a goosebump moment, then that was it.”

A world renowned opera singer, Bocelli has sold more than 90 million records and has had 15 solo studio albums during his career.

Born in La Sterza, in the Tuscany region of Italy, the singer was born with poor eyesight before being diagnosed with congenital glaucoma, losing his sight age 12.

Despite his blindness, Bocelli went on to pursue his passion for singing and continues to perform across the world.

Musical performances are a major part of most royal weddings. In May, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex organised for the Kingdom Choir to perform a rendition of “Stand by Me” at their nuptials, while Ellie Goulding performed at the 2011 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
