1The Ravenna, pounds 24.99. Although fiddly to put together this compact, cast iron barbecue, with adjustable grill level should last a lifetime. Sturdy and very heavy, it's perfect for the garden. Sainsbury's Homebase; call 0181-784 7200 for nearest branch.

2Barbecook cylinder Barbecue, pounds 59.99. Sleek stainless steel BBQ for style junkies. Lid open, it functions as a conventional barbecue, lid down it smokes your food. Lightweight and easy to assemble - a very cool addition to the garden. Selfridges; 0171-629 1234
