Bargain Hunter: Charity does begin at home - BHF will collect without charge

If you've ever tried to clear out some of the larger unwanted items from your home, you'll know that it can be a costly business. Some councils charge up to £50 to take away an old sofa, for instance. But a charity is offering to do it free, just in time for anyone who's planning a bit of spring cleaning.

British Heart Foundation shops, and its furniture and electrical stores, will pick up everything without charge – from a bag of clothes, books and shoes to that unwanted sofa, dining table or wardrobe. And every penny of profit it raises from selling your unwanted stuff funds life-saving research into fighting coronary heart disease. Last year the charity raised more than £31m.

BHF now has more than 150 furniture and electrical stores across England, Scotland and Wales. To book a free collection for any items, from bags of clothes to three-piece suites, just go online to bhf.org.uk/free or call 0800 915 3000.

Sing a song of chip shops to win a Philips Airfryer

You may have missed the fact that it's National Chip Week, but if you'd like to celebrate the event we have an exclusive competition to give away two £130 Philips Airfryers to readers.

The safe-cooking low-fat airfryers are being offered by over-fifties insurance expert RIAS, to highlight the dangers of chip-pan fryers. The company said the average cost per claim for chip-pan fryers last year was £34,000 for fire damage to property and repairs to fixtures and structure, as well as smoke damage, which is not always confined to the kitchen.

Peter Corfield of RIAS said: "With the advent of healthier, safer methods of achieving the perfect chips, such as airfryers, we would like to encourage more people to change the way they cook chips."

To be in with a chance of winning a Philips HD9220/20 Airfryer, email the answer to the following question to yourmoney@independent.co.uk by next Thursday, 27 February: according to the Kirsty MacColl song, "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's..." Who?
