Why not take time to catch up on some literature? The book retailer Blackwell's is offering discounts on 138 classic "Books that Inspired Us" – 30 per cent off online and three for two in-store. The books on offer have all been picked by Blackwell's booksellers and staff and range from The Outsider by Albert Camus to Roald Dahl's Matilda.

The latter is down to £4.89 from £6.99, while The Outsider falls from £7.99 to £5.59. Meanwhile George Orwell's 1984 costs £5.59, from £7.99, and JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye is £6.29 during the offer, reduced from its normal price of £8.99. For full details go to: bit.ly/15zxZqo.

The Original Factory Shop reduces the price of love

Valentine's Day deals have started arriving at the Bargain Hunter desk. Romantic mood spreads to the Mercure hotel chain

Meanwhile, Mercure hotels has a "Ready for Romance" package valid for stays from 11 to 22 February at participating UK hotels. Under the deal, couples will pay from £109 for bed and breakfast and a late check-out until 2pm, as well as an indulgent box of chocolates and a "romantic" three-course dinner including two glasses of fizz.
