Boy, 10, wins pounds 1.3m award
A judge yesterday awarded pounds 1.3 million to a 10-year-old boy who is confined to a wheelchair after being starved of oxygen at birth.
Mr Justice Holland made the award at Newcastle upon Tyne High Court against the former North West Durham, now Co Durham, Health Authority, which admitted liability at an earlier hearing.
The court heard that Graeme Irwin from Shotley Bridge, Co Durham, who was born at the town's General Hospital, has a high IQ and good education prospects despite physical disabilities
