A UK aid package for Jaguar cars worth up to £80m has gone to the European Commission for scrutiny. Ford, Jaguar's parent, requested a grant towards keeping the development of a new sports car in Britain rather than America.

The Department of Trade and Industry has approved a package, which is dependent on Jaguar creating several hundred jobs. A final decision on the size and conditions of the package is likely next month.
