Amec is still talking with Norwegian shipbuilding and engineering company Kvaerner about its 26.1 per cent shareholding in Amec and possible joint venture partnerships, Amec chief executive Peter Mason said. "Kvaerner has signalled its intention to sell its stake, but we don't know if it will be placed or sold on to another potential suitor." Separately, Amec announced the purchase for an undisclosed sum of South West Infrastructure Maintenance, sixth of the seven British Rail maintenance companies to be sold. Turnover of the company was over pounds 100m last year, when it was profitable, Amec said.
