THE MARKET ended on a five-week closing low, hit by nagging fears that the Federal Reserve will raise US interest rates at its October meeting.

The FTSE 100 finished just above session lows, 48.3 points down at 6,067.7, having touched a low of 6,043.6.

Technical analysts said the break below 6,086 was bad news for investors and put the FTSE 100 on a direct course for 6,000 and 5,976.2.
