THE DOW JONES Industrial Average suffered the biggest drop of the month, falling with bonds on concern that the economy's unexpectedly fast growth could accelerate inflation and drive up interest rates. Financial shares led the decline.

The Dow closed 89.63 lower at 10,788.75, recouping most of a 223-point decline. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 7.65 to 1335.18. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose for the first time in three days, gaining 14.44 to 2542.88, as optimistic reports from analysts lifted computer shares.
