BLUE CHIPS were modestly lower at midday as fears about higher interest rates rattled investors and knocked the Dow down from Monday's record high.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 38 points at 10,976, dipping just below the 11,000 milestone it crossed for the first time yesterday. Recently some economic reports have suggested inflation is about to hit the US economy.
