THE DOW fell for the second successive day as the rebound stalled amid a lack of major market news. A computer glitch on the New York Stock Exchange did little to help early momentum, although dealings had been relatively light before the one-hour early afternoon interruption. The Dow closed down 20.08 points at 8,432.21.

On the New York exchange, advancing issues led decliners by 17 to 13, with 603 million shares changing hands. The Nasdaq closed up 31.11 points at 1,724.97.
