Around the World's Markets: Paris
MEDIA SHARES surged in a hesitant market as investors relished Vivendi's purchase of Pathe on Monday as a back-door, discount entry into BSkyB.
The CAC-40 index closed up 0.08 per cent at 4,407.58, with Vivendi up more than 5 per cent. Vivendi's 17 per cent stake in BSkyB fuelled speculation of a link between Vivendi's 34 per cent-owned Canal Plus pay-television channel and BSkyB. Canal Plus climbed just under 5 per cent; Pathe jumped nearly 26 per cent.
