ENGINEER FKI jumped by 9p to 176p in heavy trading. Speculation continues about a possible management buyout led by chairman Jeff Whalley.

Mr Whalley is thought to have had an offer of around 200p a share rejected by the board's independent directors and has since been attempting to put together a higher bid.

The shares peaked at 227p last year; they were down to just 102p when the market was in ragged retreat in the autumn.
