MEMBERS OF the Birmingham Midshires may be given the opportunity to impose conditions on the Halifax takeover bid.

The Save our Building Societies campaign has been pressing for a second general meeting giving members the chance to vote on a series of secondary resolutions, which it hopes will thwart the Halifax bid.

Bob Goodall, SoBS coordinator, said it had raised the pounds 5,000 needed to call for a second meeting. "Members will have the opportunity to vote on a number of key resolutions, such as whether branches and jobs at the Midshires should be protected. They will also vote on whether mortgage and savings rates should be protected for the next five years."
