All the opening hours you'll need if you're braving the heat to hit the shops

Today's May Day Bank Holiday promises to be sweltering, with temperatures hitting 27C in some parts of the country.

Surely ideal weather for sunbathing in the park, lazing in the garden or flirting with death by undercooked pork at the barbecue?

But if you're determined to do battle with the crowds and hit the shops, here are the opening hours for some of the UK's larger supermarkets, DIY outlets and department stores.

Hardware stores

B&Q

All stores nationwide are open between 7am to 8pm.

Homebase

All stores nationwide are open between 7am to 8pm.

Wickes

All stores nationwide are open between 8am to 8pm.

Screwfix

All stores nationwide are open between 7am to 8pm.

Supermarkets

Tesco

Tesco's stores in England and Wales are open between 9am to 6pm today, although its London supermarkets will be open for slightly longer: 8am to 8pm.

Smaller Tesco Express stores will be open normal hours and the company's Metro stores around the country will be open between 9am to 6pm.

Branches of Tesco will be open between 8am and 8pm in Scotland and between 10am and 7pm in Northern Ireland.

Sainsbury's

All stores nationwide are open between 9am and 7pm.

Waitrose

The majority of Waitrose stores are open from 9am to 6pm today but the company advises that some may be open longer, from 8am to 8pm, and recommend checking with your local branch.

Asda

The majority of Asda stores will be open from 8am to 8pm today but the company advises checking with your local branch as their may be some variation.

Aldi

Aldi will be open as usual between 8am and 8pm today.

Lidl

Lidl is following suit and will be open from 8am to 8pm today.

Morrisons

Most of Morrisons' stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be open as usual today but the retailer recommends checking in with your local branch before setting out.

All of the company's Scottish stores are open as normal.

High street

Argos

All stores nationwide are open between 9am and 9pm today.

Debenhams

All stores nationwide are open between 9am and 6pm today.

John Lewis

All stores nationwide are open between 10am and 8pm today.

Marks & Spencer

All stores nationwide are open between 8am and 7pm today.
