Britain's high street banks resume battle against the Office of Fair Trading in the Court of Appeal today, as they attempt to overturn a High Court ruling from earlier in the year, which said that the OFT does have the right to assess the banks' terms and conditions for fairness.

The case is scheduled to run through this week and next, with a ruling expected before the end of the year. Once the case is finished, the losing side is expected to appeal the ruling to the House of Lords, where a final and decisive judgment will be made.

If the banks lose, the OFT will launch a separate case to determine whether or not the banks' terms and conditions are actually unfair.
