Brussels studies bank bonuses and state aid
European regulators are to take a closer look at bonuses paid to executives at state-aided banks.
"One element we pay attention to [when considering state aid] is the remuneration incentive structure ... to verify whether it promotes the beneficiary's long-term profitability," said the EC Competition Commissioner, Neelie Kroes. Eurozone banks have received billions of euros in state aid since the credit crisis worsened in late 2008.
