MetroBank is opening the first “drive-thru” style branch in the city.

The idea is to allow customers to carry out cashier service “from the comfort of their car.”

Clients will be able to pay in cash and cheques as well as withdraw funds from their account with the help of two dedicated cashiers in a retail park in Southhall, West London, starting from October 23.

The new branch will be open seven days a week, with opening hours until 8pm during the working week.

The first customers of the drive-thru will get popcorn, balloons and music.

The high street bank says the move comes after their original drive-thru branch in Slough, launched in 2013, proved successful with customers.

“Metro Bank’s model is simple – we want to give customers unparalleled levels of service and convenience whether that’s in store, online by telephone or even from the seat of their car. We’re thrilled to bring a true banking alternative to the Southall community and look forward to welcoming both personal and business customers on our journey as we revolutionise UK banking,” James Baughan, regional director at Metro Bank, said.

Metro Bank was launched in 2010 by American businessman Vernon Hill. It has since grown to 37 UK stores in London and the South East.

The number of customer accounts grew to 544,000, a record quarterly increase of 10 per cent according to the bank’s second quarter figures.
