Olympic double gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes is joining the board of TUI Education, a division of the FTSE 100 travel giant, TUI Travel, as a non-executive director.

Dame Kelly said she was delighted by the appointment and would be using her sporting and military physical-training background to help TUI in its work providing educational and gap-year trips for the young. She will also take part in public speaking and training engagements for the business, which last year carried 465,000 youngsters on its organised holidays and trips. Also last year, TUI Education turned over £228m and had earnings before tax of £27m.

Ian Finlay, its managing director, said: "Dame Kelly is a great ambassador for sport, and for the life-changing educational experiences that TUI Education delivers to its customers."
