The chief executive of Tesco's failed US business walked off with nearly £3m last year, despite Fresh & Easy savaging the supermarket giant's bottom line.

Alongside the pay-off for Tim Mason, Tesco revealed it paid its former UK chief executive Richard Brasher £1.3m over the year to 23 February, despite him leaving in July.

Mr Mason was paid £1.68m in "liquidated damages", equal to his average bonus over the last two years, salary and benefits. He also received his actual salary of £691,000 to when he left in December and benefits of £400,000 in 2012-13, giving him total pay of £2.77m.
