The Institute of Directors has called on companies to put more women on boards in 2012.

In his New Year's message, director-general Simon Walker stressed there were "still too few women in the boardroom". The IoD's seven main board directors are all men. Meanwhile, Tesco director Lucy Neville-Rolfe told the BBC conditions were improving: "In the past four years, the number of female directors in Tesco's businesses around the world has risen by 70 per cent to 103."
