BAA, the embattled airport owner, could run Stansted airport more efficiently and provide more clear information to explain is investment programme, the airport watchdog yesterday.

The Civil Aviation Authority, which referred BAA to the Competition Commission, laid out a variety of price cap schemes that it may impose on the airport but said it would not decide on which was most appropriate until the Competition Commission had published its final ruling on the fate of BAA later this year. The commission hinted last week that it may recommend a break-up of BAA when it said that greater competition among the company’s London airports could be beneficial.
