Tensions between Germany and Greece were simmering in an unexpected way yesterday, after the German tour operator Tui asked its Greek hotel clients to sign a contract amendment allowing it to pay its bills in drachmas if the country leaves the single currency.
Tui said: "As a responsible, publicly listed company, Tui seeks to avoid the possibility of any adverse effect from the currency or macroeconomic situation and plans accordingly."
