The directories group Yell has poached a senior manager from NEC to run its UK operation.

Richard Hanscott was yesterday named chief executive of Yell UK, and will join next month.

He arrives from NEC where he was chief executive of the German operation and vice-president of network solutions for the European operation.

Mr Hanscott will report to the group chief executive Mike Pocock, who said the appointment would help the drive to shift more of its operations online. "This new appointment reflects the importance of our UK business both in its own right and as a key contributor to the Yell Group," he added.

Before NEC, Mr Hanscott was at mobile operator Orange from 1997 to 2007 in senior sales and marketing roles.
