pounds 400m road contracts awarded

The Department of Transport has awarded pounds 400m of road-building contracts to three consortia under the private finance initiative, in a move the Government hopes will counteract a growing row over Budget cuts that will hit direct government spending on roads. Companies involved include Amec, Alfred McAlpine, Trafalgar House, Wimpey and Morrison.
