RJB upbeat on generator deals

RJB MINING, Britain's biggest coal producer, yesterday said it was confident of signing new long-term supply deals with the electricity generators and dismissed reports that it was poised to axe up to 1,000 jobs and three pits. Richard Budge, chief executive, said RJB had "a viable business plan for all its collieries". First half pre-tax profits fell by a half to pounds 44.7m and the dividend was cut from 10p to 3p.
