Spurs pay price of star signings
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, the Premier League football club, paid the price of bringing in new players last season as its wage bill jumped 46 per cent to pounds 17.3m. The cost of star signings such as David Ginola and Les Ferdinand also pulled Tottenham into the red. In the year to 31 July, the club lost pounds 1m pre-tax compared to a profit of pounds 7.6m. John Sedgwick, the finance director, said the club was planning to launch branded bank accounts and insurance products.
