Uncertainty blamed for low investment
Research by Lloyds Bank suggests the low level of business investment is due to "uncertainty" about the direction of the economy. "We need to create an environment where investment levels of the late 1980s are sustained," Patrick Foley, chief economist, says. "Higher investment is a desirable government aim because the resultant capacity increase could allow the economy to grow faster, for longer, without building inflationary pressure."
