A CLUTCH of blue-chip firms including the drinks titan Allied Domecq rose on takeover talk, helping to quench concerns over slowing economic growth in the US. The FTSE 100 closed 0.7 per cent better at 4,941.5, having earlier hit 4,947.4 - its highest level since mid-2000.
