Call for malaria drug to be withdrawn
The father of a six-year-old girl who died after taking the anti-malarial drug mefloquine, also known as Lariam, has called for it to be withdrawn.
The drug was prescribed for a trip to Nigeria. On her return the girl contracted a condition called toxic epidermal necrolysis, and died 19 days later. Her father, who wishes to remain anonymous,said: "My loss is incalculable ... I do feel this drug should not be on the market."
