A woman who was left "looking like a 70 year old" has received almost pounds 3,000 compensation after a visit to her haidressers went badly wrong,

Hotel receptionist Madeleine McDonald, 38, said she was left looking like a "a grey-haired grandmother" after two visits to her local salon in Wimborne, Dorset 12 months ago to have highlights put in her brown hair.

"When I finally came out my head was on fire it was so hot," she said. "When the hairdresser washed off the bleach I looked about 70 years old. I was so shocked but didn't say anything. It was awful."

Mrs McDonald has accepted an out-of-court compensation payment of pounds 2,900.

Maira Hughes, the owner of the Sheclips salon, said the hairdresser had since left the salon to set up her own business.
