A MAN appeared before magistrates in South London yesterday charged in connection with the theft of possessions belonging to Ron Davies, the former Welsh Secretary who resigned last week.

Donald Fearon, aged 38, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery. The offence, on 26 October in Dray Gardens, Brixton, concerns the theft of Mr Davies' Ford Granada car, his mobile phone and cash.

Mr Fearon, spoke to confirm his name and age at Camberwell Green magistrates court. He was arrested after the MP was robbed on Clapham Common, London, on Monday night.

Four others were released on police bail following the attack. Mr Fearon is remanded in custody to reappear before magistrates on November 16. There was no bail application.
