Mir Aimal Kasi was sentenced to death yesterday for an ambush outside CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, five years ago that left two men dead.

Kasi, from Pakistan, fired an assault rifle at motorists stuck in morning traffic on 25 January 1993. He later told FBI agents he wanted to make a statement about US interference in Muslim countries.

"This is the result of a wrong policy toward Muslim countries," Kasi told Fairfax Circuit Court, Virginia. "I don't expect any justice or mercy from your country or this court."
