2.00: It would be no surprise to see lightly-raced King Sound improving to play a prominent role for Frankie Dettori. However, he is held on Goodwood form by Poseidon and, with the front-runners Fahris, Kingfisher Mill and Salmon Ladder in the field, this may be set up for ROMANOV, who can produce a turn of foot from off the pace. He is not certain to relish this trip, despite finishing third in the Derby, but his trainer believes this is his trip and he won convincingly over 1m 2f last time. He holds Fahris on that form. Maylane is improving but temperamental and will not be able to give away ground at the start as he did when winning at Epsom this month.

2.35: ELNADIM is improving rapidly and the form of his Newmarket win from Bollin Joanne and Almushtarak has been confirmed by subsequent successes for the placed pair. Tomba would be a deserving winner after a rough passage into third in the Haydock Sprint Cup, but prefers soft ground, while Averti, fourth to Royal Applause in that race, is probably better over five furlongs. My Best Valentine, stepping up from handicaps and dramatically improved, looks more dangerous.

3.20: With Entrepreneur having been out of the fray since June and Revoque and Bahhare still with plenty to prove after coming back from long absences to fight out the finish of a three-runner race last time, AIR EXPRESS and Allied Forces look safer propositions to run up to form. The selection put up his best performance over this course and distance when chasing home Starborough in June, with the 2,000 Guineas third, Poteen, and Irish 2,000 winner, Desert King, in arrears. He did not like the track when down the field in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, where Allied Forces pressed Ali-Royal and Starborough to the line.

3.55: There should be plenty of pace on the far side, where YOUNG PRECEDENT comes out of stall 24. After only five career runs he is unexposed and posted a smart effort in a competitive Newbury event last time. Of those drawn low, Flamboyance, Faraway Lass and the Safio are well handicapped.
