Teachers passed a motion of no confidence in the Government's education policies yesterday, minutes before being addressed by Schools Minister Nick Gibb.

Delegates at the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers' conference in Glagow then listened to his speech in near silence – a contrast to the heckling he received at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers conference last week.

The NASUWT is angry at what it sees as a bid to hand over state education to "marketeers and profiteers" with the setting up of privately-run "free" schools and academies. General Secretary Chris Keates, suggested that Education Secretary Michael Gove should be sacked.
