Leading article: Scientific sense

It is good news that more young people are wanting to study science degrees at university. Never mind that no one seems to know why. Maybe it is because of Einstein Year. Or maybe the penny has finally dropped that it makes sense to opt for physics, chemistry or biology. Students choosing these subjects will find it easier to get into a good university and they should find it easier to obtain a good job. The country, we are constantly being told, is crying out for graduates who are numerate and have the skills that industry needs.
