Eurostar relents on trousers

TWO FEMALE security guards with Eurostar who were told they could not wear trousers are to be allowed to return to work after a change of policy.

Debbie Sheen, 37, and Lynn McKay, 35, were sent home last month from the Eurostar terminal at Waterloo in London for refusing to wear skirts.

Eurostar said it had now instructed its security contractor, Securitas, to amend its uniform code to allow female security officers the choice of wearingtrousers or skirts after surveys of passengers and staff revealed big support for female staff being given this option.

A Eurostar spokeswoman said the move meant the two women, both from London, would be able to return to work.

The women's union, the GMB, had been preparing to take their cases to an employment tribunal.
